Mani Ratnam’s Raavan in Hindi or Villain in Telugu is inspired from the Asokavanam episode in Ramayanam. It is a modern day version of the episode where Raavanan kidnaps Sita and keeps her in Asokavanam. Later Raman ventures to save his wife and bring her back.

Finally the wait was over. I had asked my mom to book tickets from the US as I was in Delhi for the opening. A sweltering Saturday saw us entering the air conditioned climes of the local mall cine hall. The cool air was a welcome blessing from the unrelenting heat of the outside.

Directed by Mani Ratnam and music by AR Rahman, the Raavan movie cast include Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Chiyaan Vikram, Govinda and Nikhil Dwivedi in the main roles. The film is a modern adaptation of the popular epic “Ramayana” and it has something different to spice up the story and to give the viewers a thrill.

Raavan’, the most awaited flick in the first half of this year, has been one of the biggest spirit dampeners, if nothing else. What the director Mani Ratnam has tried to project in the movie is a total case of mistaken identity. Beera, whose character is loosely based on the epic villain ‘Raavan’, has been shown as the guy with the golden heart
